Used in microbiology, diagnostic, production, or research laboratories to contain various solid and semi-solid culture media (agars).

The medium is then inoculated and microbiological strains are cultured for analysis. Also used in genetics laboratories.

Its smaller size compared to standard plates makes it especially useful for inoculations where a large amount of culture medium is not required or for tests using a single microorganism or a small sample volume.

Very useful in the analysis of water or other liquids, incubating filtration membranes on the surface of the medium.
